Landfill Safety Notice

LANDFILL SAFETY NOTICE:
For the safety of our personnel and for the safety of the public – SORD does not accept waste that contains any of the following:
- Acetylene bottles;
- Propane tanks;
- Oxygen bottles; or
- Any other type of container that has the possibility of explosion.
On the afternoon of Thursday, October 2nd, 2025, SORD experienced two explosions at the landfill working face. Thankfully there were no injuries, but very well could have easily resulted in harm to anyone nearby at the working face of the landfill. These explosions were caused by two acetylene bottles in the waste received. Last summer SORD also experienced an explosion caused by a propane tank. That explosion resulted in a fire in our trash shredder.
These types of incidents are huge safety concerns and present the chance of causing significant damage to our equipment.
